Buni to lead APC national convention as party bigwigs move to overturn court order

Amid controversy over the identity of the authentic leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), senior party members have decided to overturn the court order halting the party’s national convention scheduled for March 26.

Daily Trust quoting sources within the party on Sunday March 13, said Federation Attorney General and Justice Minister Abubakar Malami (SAN) along with other APC stakeholders had reached plans to call off the lawsuit this week. .

The order was issued on November 18, 2021, following an ex parte application by an aggrieved member of the party, the Hon. Salisu Umoru.

Umoru seeks to prevent the APC and Governor Mai Mala Buni from holding a convention until the prosecution is determined.

The judge ruled that the APC can only hold a national convention after the prosecution has been heard and determined.

The order was granted by Judge Bello Kawu. The judge also ordered an expedited hearing in this case.

No more postponement will be tolerated

In another report by The Punch, Yobe state governor and chairman of the APC’s interim committee, Mai Mala Buni, may oversee the party’s national convention.

It was understood that President Muhammadu Buhari had ordered Buni to lead the party exercise on the strict condition that no further postponements would be tolerated.

Meanwhile, senior APC members are increasing pressure on President Muhammadu Buhari to drop his prime candidate for the party’s national chairmanship.
