Governor Abiodun preaches unity at Foursquare National Convention

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun on Sunday called on Christian leaders in Nigeria to use their holy altars and sermons to promote Nigerian unity for the benefit of the country and its citizens.

Mr Abiodun made the call during the 67th annual convention of the Foursquare Church in Nigeria, held at the church’s national camp in Ajebo, Obafemi/Owode local government area of ​​Nigeria. ‘State.

According to him, Nigeria is going through security challenges like terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, worship, among others, saying the problems were surmountable.

The theme of the week-long annual convention was “Encounter with the Supernatural” with text taken from Gen. 32 verses 28-30.

Mr Abiodun, who became a preacher on occasion, said: “Our churches must come to life and play their important role, even though our societies are afflicted with all sorts of evils ranging from insurrection, kidnappings, cult , banditry, sexual assault and a host of others.

“The role of the Church, as the conscience of the nation, is an age-old fact, which has become the beacon of any society that aspires to development.

“It is therefore imperative that the love of God be extended to all, while people are implored to avoid bitterness.

“Moreso, the Church as an organ of socialization, is always relevant, especially in propagating moral ethics in society.

“For this reason, the church is enjoined to work harder in its responsibility to condemn the use of violence by individuals or groups to seek redress,” he said.

Mr Abiodun urged parents and guardians to properly supervise their wards so that they are not an instrument of violence at the hands of politicians in the upcoming general election in 2023.

The governor urged churches to pray firmly for the unity of the country ahead of the 2023 general elections.

While identifying the convention as a platform to assess church growth, Abiodun urged leaders to position future church development goals within the broader spectrum of society at large.

He assured them that his administration would continue to promote religious tolerance among the different religions that exist in the state, as well as initiate programs aimed at enhancing mutual understanding and respect for the worship rights of all religious beliefs.

“The church must be proactive and promote positive ideals, virtues and values ​​that will help us maximize the development opportunities created by the existing democratic platform in the state.

“Our government is committed to ensuring the successful implementation of the ‘Building Our Future Together’ agenda and the individual prosperity of all our citizens,” Abiodun said.

In his sermon, Reverend Sam Aboyeji, the General Overseer of the organization, Service of Grace/Annual Service of Thanksgiving, spoke about the five keys to “Sustaining and Maintaining Your Meeting.”

Mr. Aboyeji, who spoke on the theme, “Encounter with the Supernatural,” called on the country’s political leaders to hand over Nigeria’s challenges to God for a divine encounter.

He also called on Nigerians to always talk about positive things that would unite Nigeria and act accordingly.

Speaking on key text from the book of Gen. 32 verse 28, Aboyeji said that an encounter could occur in all areas of human life.

According to him, each encounter with Jesus gave rise to testimonies such as the case of

Bartimaeus, a blind beggar.

The Overseer General commended the Governor of Ogun and Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, for their joint efforts to ensure adequate safety of life and property on the Lagos-Ibadan highway for the duration of the convention .

Mr. Aboyeji therefore specifically thanked Mr. Abiodun for honoring the invitation, saying he was the first governor of the state to participate in the program.

Earlier, Pastor Gbenga Olowe, chairman of the planning committee for the 2022 National Annual Convention, said the convention was preceded by a two-week Foursquare National Intercessory Prayer.

According to him, it stood in the midst of other mainstream prayers, which had been offered to the Lord at various places/times/months during the year 2021/2022.

Mr Olowe, who was among 86 newly ordained ministers, said the camp environment had been prepared for maximum transmission and comfort through weeding, fumigation of premises, tight security, light and food supply. adequate water.

According to him, a few projects have been carried out by the congress committee, including the construction and inauguration of the national office building named after Rev. (Dr.) Gabriel Farombi; construction of 750 liters of underground water; construction and inauguration of 85 units of market stalls, among others.

However, the week-long program witnessed the ministries of Bishop Wale Oke, President of Pentecost Al Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) and Dr. Paul Enenche of Dunamis Church.

He also witnessed the appointment of key new national officers to the organization’s governing body, the National Executive Council (NEC), the ordination of 86 pastors to reverend status, senior pastors.
