LAS VEGAS (KTNV) – Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman has said Las Vegas will be the best location for the Republican National Convention in 2024.
The RNC has sent letters to some mayors across the country asking their interest in being the site of the 2024 national convention, and Goodman was not shy about expressing support for Las Vegas, according to the city.
“To me, this request is not about politics, it is about bringing millions of dollars in convention activity back to our local economy,” Goodman said. “No one hosts conventions and conferences better than Las Vegas, and our community is ready for this major economic boost. “
“If thousands of delegates converge on the city and spend a lot of money, it’s great for the city,” said Steven Budin, Channel 13 financial specialist.
With more than 155,000 hotel rooms in close proximity to each other and current technological convention spaces, the mayor believes few cities can compete.
“Assuming we are beyond the COVID-19 pandemic, I have full confidence that Vegas will step up its A game,” Budin said.
National political conventions predicted positive economic impacts of around $ 200 million for host cities, according to the city.
“Anytime Las Vegas can be mentioned on a national stage is beneficial to us. It would be a great way for us to promote the city, not only nationally but also around the world,” Budin said.
Goodman anticipates that the Democratic National Committee will also be in touch to host its national convention in Las Vegas and would be welcome as well.
Formal offers to the RNC are due no later than December 1, 2021, for the three-day convention, which will take place in summer 2024.
Nevada Republican Party Chairman Michael J. McDonald issued the following statement on the proposal to bring the 2024 Republican Presidential Convention to Las Vegas:
“We are honored to make an offer to bring the 2024 Republican Presidential Convention to Las Vegas. This is a huge opportunity for our city and state to bring business back to the convention capital of the world. Aside from the honor of hosting the Republican convention, it’s about bringing hundreds of millions of dollars to Nevada. We were excited for the opportunity to present this in 2020 and are confident that Las Vegas is the right place to host the convention in 2024. Our state is suffering, having the highest unemployment rate in the country for the past two months. We need economic stimulus and this convention would certainly give an economic boost.
