Information on the 103rd National Convention in Milwaukee

The American Legion is hosting its 103rd National Convention in Milwaukee, August 26-September 1. Participants will participate in commission meetings, workshops and training sessions, as well as VIPs, attend awards ceremonies and elect a new national commander.

Live coverage

The following events will be streamed live on the American Legion National Headquarters Facebook page and YouTube page. All times listed are central and are tentative and/or subject to change.

• National Color Guard Competition – Friday, August 26 at 4 p.m.

• National Concert Band Competition – Sunday, August 28 at 1 p.m.

• Patriotic Memorial Service – Sunday, August 28 at 11 a.m.

• General Sessions of the Convention – Tuesday August 30, Wednesday August 31 and Thursday September 1, from 8:30 a.m.

During the general sessions of the congress, several distinguished guests and presenters will be present on stage. A few include: opening remarks by Paralympian Rob Jones; VA Secretary Denis McDonough; Phil Roe, recipient of the Legion Distinguished Service Medal; Vietnam War Medal of Honor recipient Robert M. Patterson; Michael Rodriquez, CEO and President of the Global War On Terrorism Memorial Foundation; Rudd Institute for Veteran and Military Suicide Prevention; and the Ganassi Racing group. Other presentations include membership awards, Legacy Run donations, Fourth Estate awards, National Firefighter of the Year Award, National Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award, and Moreover.

General sessions of the 50th SAL National Convention will also be streamed on the SAL Facebook page. These sessions are scheduled to begin at noon CDT on Friday, August 26; 8 a.m. CDT Saturday, August 27; and 8 a.m. CDT on Sunday, August 28.

Legion Family Activities

• Regiment Gaming will have gaming stations in the Wisconsin Center

• Legion Family Service Project at the Milwaukee War Memorial Center – Friday, August 26

• Legion Family Day at Milwaukee Oktoberfest – Sunday, August 28 from 1-4 p.m. or 5-9 p.m.

• Milwaukee Brewers vs. Pittsburgh Pirates at American Family Field – Monday, August 29 at 7:10 p.m. Buy your tickets online.

Application of the 2022 National Convention

The American Legion National Convention mobile app is also available for free download from the Apple Store or Google Play. The app includes maps, information on meeting times, agenda, a guide to Milwaukee and more. The app will continue to be updated with information, news headlines and alerts throughout the convention.
