LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – The 2024 Republican National Convention (RNC) would be welcome in Las Vegas, Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman said on Monday. In fact, it’s the best place in the country, she says.
In response to the RNC’s question asking if Las Vegas is interested in being considered, Goodman answered yes.
“To me, this request is not about politics, it is about bringing millions of dollars in convention activity back to our local economy,” Goodman said. “No one hosts conventions and conferences better than Las Vegas, and our community is ready for this major economic boost. “
And Goodman expects Democrats to call too.
With national conventions in three years, a lot can happen. But the tendering process is already underway and formal offers must be submitted to the RNC no later than December 1.
The Republican National Committee will convene a meeting on October 26 in Washington DC for cities wishing to host the convention.
The three-day convention is expected to have an economic impact of approximately $ 200 million to benefit the host city as delegates and media converge for this high-profile event.
The RNC has sent letters to some mayors across the country asking their interest in being the site of the 2024 national convention, and Goodman was not shy about expressing Las Vegas’ support. according to a press release from the city of Las Vegas.
With more than 155,000 hotel rooms nearby and new convention spaces, the mayor believes few cities can compete.
Nevada GOP President Michael J. McDonald released a statement on Monday saying the city would be honored to host the convention:
“We are honored to make an offer to bring the 2024 Republican Presidential Convention to Las Vegas. This is a huge opportunity for our city and state to bring business back to the convention capital of the world. Aside from the honor of hosting the Republican convention, it’s about bringing hundreds of millions of dollars to Nevada. We were excited for the opportunity to present this in 2020 and are confident that Las Vegas is the right place to host the convention in 2024. Our state is suffering, having the highest unemployment rate in the country for the past two months. We need economic stimulus and this convention would certainly give an economic boost.
