Milwaukee selected to host the 2024 Republican National Convention

Republican Party Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel announcement On Friday, the Republican National Committee (RNC) voted unanimously to host the 2024 Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.

“Milwaukee is a world-class city, and we can’t wait to see it shine in the spotlight in 2024,” McDaniel said. said in a tweet. “We look forward to working with the mayor and all members of the community to make this an event that highlights not only our candidate…but the great city that is Milwaukee.”

Republican party leaders first recommended Milwaukee as the host city for the 2024 convention in early July. Nashville, Tennessee, was also considered as a potential host city, but was ruled out due to disagreements over how to stage the event, according to the Associated press.

Democratic Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson celebrated the announcement despite ideological disagreements with the GOP and RNC, calling it a “business decision” rather than a political one.

“This will provide us with an opportunity to have millions of dollars of economic impact…for us to fill our restaurants, our bars, our hotels and support our hospitality industry which has been battered by [COVID-19] over the past two years,” Johnson added.

Milwaukee Business Leaders rented the decision, with Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce President Tim Sheehy calling it “another step forward” for the region.

“It’s remarkable for an American city to get two major party nominating conventions in a row — a resounding endorsement for all that Milwaukee has to offer,” Sheehy said. says FOX6 News Friday.

Republicans, including former lieutenant governor and current GOP gubernatorial candidate Rebecca Kleefisch, as well as former governor Scott Walker, also celebrated the announcement of the convention.

“The Democrats left Milwaukee in 2020, and when we can introduce Wisconsin to the nation in 2024, a Republican governor will be there to welcome them,” Kleefisch tweeted on Friday.

Democrats initially predicted to host their 2020 convention in Milwaukee, but were forced to severely limit attendance due to COVID-19. Few party officials have traveled to the city as a result, dealing an economic blow to hotels, restaurants and other venues already struggling amid the pandemic, according to Politics.

Current poll of Harvard CAPS-Harris still heavily favors former President Donald Trump in the 2024 Republican presidential primary, should he choose to run as he did previously told New York Magazine.

The current runner-up in the polls is Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who is also expected to run.
