Super Eagles forward Cyriel Dessers has revealed he is still very open to a return to the senior national team after finally getting over last season’s disappointment at Belgian club KRC Genk where he struggled to surpass his compatriot Paul Onuachu, reports AOIFootball.com.
The 26-year-old, who is already enjoying his time at Dutch club Feyenoord, after signing a one-season loan deal, told AOIFootball.com exclusively after another winning performance against Az Alkmaar, that he was excited about its new form. .
Dessers, who is the Super Eagles’ only appearance in a 1-1 draw with Tunisia in October 2020, further said he hopes his form can convince the leaders of the national team to entrust him with his full international debut with Nigeria.
“Of course, that hope is alive; if I get back to my best form and score goals, I hope I can be an option for the Super Eagles! But the competition is also very big, a lot of Nigerian strikers are doing very well in the European leagues.
“But the national team is the highest so I will always fight and I always hope so,” Dessers said.
Former Heracles striker Almelo has enjoyed a smooth return to Eredivisie, averaging one goal every 47 minutes in the league despite having only started one game and having also found the net once in the Europa Conference League.
