Vice President Yemi Osinbajo met with APC National Chairman Abdullahi Adamu and five governors from the ruling party on Thursday.
The meeting, sources said, began around 7 p.m.
However, the identity of the governors is currently unknown.
The meeting took place at Aguda House, the official residence of the Vice President.
Laolu Akande, the vice president’s spokesperson, did not respond to calls made on his number.
Mr Osinbajo is in the presidential race under the APC alongside 22 others with the special convention to elect a candidate set for June 6-8.
During the week, the ruling party’s presidential race became intriguing after President Muhammadu Buhari met with APC governors and the party’s national chairman.
“In accordance with the established internal policies of the Party and the approach of the Convention in a few days, I therefore wish to seek the reciprocity and support of the governors and other stakeholders in choosing my successor, who would fly the flag of our party for the election as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2023,” Mr. Buhari had told the governors.
He left for Spain on a state visit after the meeting.
For their part, the APC governors have held several meetings to deliberate on an ideal candidate but have so far failed to agree.
The Tinubu Explosion
Earlier on Thursday, Bola Tinubu, former governor of Lagos State and APC presidential candidate, in a meeting with delegates from Ogun State, recounted how Mr. Osinbajo emerged as vice president.
He said Mr. Osinbajo, a native of the state, would not have emerged as the running mate in 2015 without his support.
“I am telling you between my life and Almighty God, Buhari called me to be his vice president. He said because the first time he contested, he chose Okadigbo, a flamboyant Catholic, but Nigerians did not vote for him.
“The second time he chose another Igbo, Ume-Ezeoke, Nigerians did not vote for him. He knows that even if he is going to get the pope to portray himself as his vice, Nigerians will not vote for him. So he said, ‘you, Bola Tinubu, you have six governors, you have never lost an election before, come and be my vice.
“He knew that all the calculations favored us then, that’s why he wanted me as his vice, but I told him to let us build the party first.
“I told them I had a Christian candidate I could nominate so the party wouldn’t break up. This is how I named Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. I gave him my rights (Osinbajo).
