Party to print presidency form as governors endorse Adamu – The Whistler Nigeria

The Progressive Governors Forum has finally acquiesced in the choice of President Muhammadu Buhari for the position of national chairman of the party, THE WHISTLER has learned.

The forum is made up of governors under the APC.

Buhari is reported to have appointed Senator Abdullahi Adamu as National President, which is a stark departure from his previous choice of long-time political associate and former Nasarawa State Governor, Mr. Tanko Al-Makura.

Interestingly, Al-Makura, who was the only governor of the Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, formed by Buhari, was credited with being the sole financier of the party, a development which made him very close to Buhari.

Sources said the former governor’s preference for APC national leader Mr. Bola Tinubu, a key contender for Buhari’s succession, could have turned the president away from him.

Al-Makura and his state governor, Abdullahi Sule, both members of the CPC bloc within the APC, supported Tinubu.

Anti-Tinubu sentiment among the upper echelons of the APC, it has been gathered, is responsible for the preference for Adamu as National President and Ken Nnamani as National Vice President, South and Mr. John Akpanudoedehe to remain National Secretary party.

With the party structure firmly in control of Buhari, it will then be easy to decide who will emerge as the party’s presidential candidate and among the other candidates across the states.

According to sources at the PGF, the majority of governors had given their support to Buhari’s anointed in a short meeting before he left for Kenya, forcing the removal of Mai Mala Buni as interim president.

It has been learned that those who did not approve of the president’s decision are afraid to oppose him given that the majority of them will seek a second term as governors. And they are mostly from the geopolitical zone of the South West, the political stronghold of Tinubu.

According to a source with adequate knowledge of the development, Niger State Governor Mr. Abubakar Sani Bello was chosen because of his unwavering support for Buhari, and would easily appease Senator Sani Musa, who was initially endorsed by him and some of his colleagues. governors.

Thus, the party will print only one form for the position of president to allow members to vote for affirmation, a member of the interim committee told THE WHISTLER on Tuesday.

He revealed that the governors who endorsed the anointed aspirant of Buhari are those of Imo, Niger, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Osun, Kaduna, Katsina, Kano, Gombe, Borno , Yobe and the Deputy Governor of Anambra.

An active member of the House of Representatives on the party’s platform told THE WHISTLER that “it’s undemocratic for the party to be run this way, where one man with one vote decides the fate of the party.”

According to him, “Buhari should play fair. It seems the president doesn’t care what happens to the party after him,” he said on the phone on Tuesday.

But a former chief executive of the PGF, Mr Salihu Lukman countered his reference to the president’s anti-democratic posturing by saying the president meant well and should be commended for trying to reinstate reason in the party.

While blaming Buni and Akpanudoedehe for the crises within the party, he urged party members to “remain vigilant, confident and courageous to continue to support and commit all party leaders to take all the painful decisions necessary to guarantee that the March 26 APC Convention restores all democratic structures of the APC and puts the APC back on the path to electoral victory in 2023.”

He added that “the APC is a party which, in its short period of existence, has proven that leadership is a matter of trust. Once a leader betrays the trust placed in them, the necessary democratic process and structures will be activated to reorganize and produce new leaders who will honestly serve the party.

The party source further informed that once the president returns before the convention, everything will be settled and the party will be on the road to peace.

“There is going to be regular contact with the president in the UK. There is practically nothing to do since the committees of the convention have been set up.

“One-size-fits-all forms will be printed for most positions, especially for National President and MPs, Secretary and a few others, so that’s it.

“The party is even working to give affirmations to all positions because these offices have been zoned. The zones will share offices between the states that make up the zones and everything is settled,” he said.
