Tesla Attends 2021 Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers National Convention Seeking Talent

The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers is focused on empowering Hispanics and integrating them into STEM, including through the SHPE 2021 National Convention in Orlando, Florida. Interestingly, Tesla has a stand and is actively looking for engineers see you this week national convention (November 10-14). The theme of the convention is “The Most Magical Moment” and celebrates the evolution of SHPE.

The SHPE National Convention brings together more than 9,000 people and is made up of five separate conferences:

  • Pre-university
  • Academic
  • SHPEtinas
  • SHPETech
  • STEM professionals.

Tesla is one of a long list of exhibitors and offers both virtual and live experience. On the company’s LinkedIn page, a few Tesla employees expressed their enthusiasm for meeting top talent and future engineering leaders at Tesla. Tesla is also one of the event’s many sponsors, along with TikTok, Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Square, Inc., T-Mobile, and many other companies.

In 2020, Tesla released its first Diversity and Inclusion Report and announced its goal to be more representative of the changing American population as well as its commitment to be more inclusive. Tesla said that Black, African American, Hispanic, Latin, Asian, Pacific Islander, Native American, Hawaiian and Alaskan Native communities are generally under-represented in the United States and that this same group collectively makes up 60% of its workforce. However, Tesla noted that 33% of its leaders are from under-represented communities and that it seeks to increase that number.

Tesla noted that at the time of the report, Hispanic and Latin American employees made up 22% of its American workforce, Asian employees 21%, Blacks and African Americans 10%, and women 21%. Since the report’s publication, Tesla has been actively recruiting employees and working to increase the diversity of its workforce.
